Some great ideas to try! Click here!

There’s something undeniably comforting about a body pillow, the way it wraps around you like a warm hug at the end of a long day. But what if that comfort could be made even better by infusing it with a little creativity and sustainability? Instead of heading to the store for a mass-produced cover, why not craft your own using clothes that once held memories—an old sweater from a favorite winter, a flannel shirt that used to be your go-to for chilly nights, or a t-shirt that reminds you of good times?

Upcycling old tops or hoodies into a cozy body pillow cover is both a creative and eco-friendly solution. The Tops you choose have already been broken in, making it perfectly soft against your skin. By reusing materials, you breathe new life into old garments, transforming them into something fresh and functional.

A Cozy Upcycled Pillow for Sweet Dreams!

But most important is seeing a pillow sitting up waiting for you in bed.

Your pillow is about 50” x 18” big. Your shirts you choose should be cut to 25” length each. Sew the bottom edges together and you are done.

Well, put the pillow in through the neckline opening which can be sew closed or left open adding another element like a scarf or embroidery.

Start by gathering your favorite worn-in tops. Maybe you have a sweater that no longer fits but is too cozy to part with, or a t-shirt that carries nostalgia but has seen better days. Lay them flat, line them up at the waist, and with just one seam, you can sew them together into a brand-new home for your body pillow. If you leave the sleeves intact, they become gentle arms that wrap around you as you curl up with a book or drift off to sleep.

For those who love a little extra charm, embellishments can make your pillow cover even more unique. Try adding a hoodie for extra warmth, stitching together different fabrics for a patchwork effect, or personalizing it with embroidery. The beauty of this project lies in its adaptability—you’re not just making a pillow cover, you’re crafting something deeply personal, filled with warmth and history.

As you stitch, you might find yourself reminiscing about the times you wore these clothes. That favorite flannel might remind you of autumn bonfires, the sweater of a particularly chilly holiday season. In the end, your body pillow will be more than just a cozy sleep companion; it will be a piece of your story, stitched together with care and creativity.

So, the next time you think your body pillow needs a new cover make one out of two favorite sweaters instead. You are giving your sweaters a new purpose. While saving money on a new cover. With a little sewing and a touch of imagination, you can create something both functional and full of sentimental value. Your upcycled body pillow will be a nightly reminder that comfort isn’t just about softness—it’s about the memories woven into every stitch.

With just a little sewing and creativity, you can transform old tops into a charming and functional body pillow cover. Not only is this DIY sewing project simple and budget-friendly, but it also helps reduce textile waste. So grab your sewing kit and start upcycling today for a snuggly, eco-friendly sleep companion!
